Day 1568 of the full-scale invasion: Same Length as WWI

Today is day 1568 of the full-scale invasion. The duration of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine matches the length of the First World War. Day 1568 of unconcealed Russian war crimes against our country. June 10, 2026, marks day 1568 of the full-scale invasion — exactly as long as World War I lasted — from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918.

One of the major historical outcomes of World War I was the collapse of the global imperial order. Some empires ceased to exist entirely, like the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian. Others survived, but only through catastrophic transformation, like the German and Russian empires. There is little doubt that this time, too, the Moscow pseudo-empire is slowly heading toward catastrophe.

The Nivelle Offensive — Sound Familiar?

At this stage of the full-scale war, we are watching Russia’s generals not just repeat the mistakes of a century ago. They are pushing them to the point of absurdity. One example is the infamous Nivelle Offensive. This Allied strategic push against the German army became a symbol of pointless losses and commanders’ excessive optimism. General Robert Nivelle underestimated the enemy’s defensive capacity and threw enormous forces into battle without achieving his objectives. The consequences went well beyond the battlefield, with a wave of public discontent sweeping France, strikes breaking out, and mass mutinies spreading through the army.

If you compare the Nivelle slaughter to Russia’s most recent large-scale offensive, you see the same mistakes of positional warfare, just on a far bigger scale. The Nivelle Offensive lasted only 24 days. How long Russia’s so-called “offensive” actually lasted is something future historians will have to define for themselves.

In terms of civil society development, today’s Russian population lags far behind French society of a century ago, so we have not seen mass protests yet. But Ukrainian deep strikes are doing the educational work instead — and doing it fairly effectively. As a result, the Kremlin’s approval ratings keep falling, and ordinary Russians are increasingly feeling the war on their own skin. Still, even these processes are slow. Nobody should expect an uprising in Moscow tomorrow.

A Triple Trap — But No Pink Glasses

On day 1568 of the full-scale invasion, the pseudo-empire finds itself caught in a triple trap — front strikes, mid-range strikes, and deep strikes. The enemy is suffering unprecedented losses along the line of contact. Meanwhile, the Unmanned Systems Forces keep grinding down its logistics in the operational depth. Oil refineries across European Russia continue to burn. These and many other facts are encouraging, and they point toward something we have all been waiting a long time for a genuine turning point in the war.

At the same time, it is important not to forget that this is still a war of attrition. Our daily reality remains brutally hard, and even small gains take enormous effort. Meanwhile, there is a noticeable trend in the information space where individual facts get dressed up to create the impression that Russia is already nearly defeated.

For example, when we say cargo traffic on a given route has dropped by 71%, journalists and bloggers are often tempted to call that a “transport blockade”. But a blockade means 100%, not 71%. Looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses is dangerous.

Victory is coming

Victorious rhetoric has its place, since it keeps people motivated. But it has to be grounded in reality, because otherwise there is a real risk of sliding into a psychological state known as euphoria. And euphoria, the moment a serious challenge appears, can flip into depression just as easily. These emotional swings are something we should avoid.

1568 days in, there is still a great deal of exhausting work ahead of us. But we can already see light at the end of the tunnel. The day will come when this last colonial pseudo-empire takes a devastating blow, and this time it will not just transform the way it did in 1917, but break apart into dozens of national states.

Let’s keep working. Let’s bring the Victory closer.

Glory to Ukraine!
