Ukrainian Drones in the Urals: Hello, Chelyabinsk & Yekaterinburg!

Last night, Ukraine’s defense forces conducted a “test flight” for long-range strikes — not quite record-breaking distances, but definitely significant ones, around 2,000 kilometers. Specifically, Ukrainian drones in the Urals sent packages to Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg. Chelyabinsk has already had Good Birds¹ visit before, but Yekaterinburg residents saw this for the first time. Just two drones that arrived there caused massive commotion, and local Telegram channels showed clear notes of panic. Not the war they wanted, turns out. But that they wanted war — there’s zero doubt about that. Both these cities have been stuffed to the brim with military enterprises since World War II. A significant chunk of the local population works at these enterprises — meaning they manufacture weapons fully aware these weapons are used to murder civilians in Ukraine.

At the same time, the sacred Orc² question emerges: “What did we do to deserve this?” In other words, they’re perfectly fine with a war happening 2,000 kilometers away, and even happier to profit from it. But having Ukrainian drones fly straight to them — that’s unacceptable. By the way, Tuapse residents held exactly the same logic for a long time, but now they’ve got their own fresh understanding of what they dragged themselves into by believing their bald führer.

Just a Test Run — For Now

Well, the good people of Yekaterinburg still don’t get it — one or two drones isn’t an attack, and it’s not even a combat probe. This is just capability testing. Most likely, this is prep work for a proper festival of heat and light that’ll come to theyr military plants in the very near future.

So far there are no official comments from our military on this, and with high probability there won’t be any. So we can only guess what the goal of these long-range strikes was and how successfully we pulled them off. But we can safely assume that this time around, Ukrainian drones in the Urals were “field-testing” the very possibility of reaching these locations while dodging enemy air defense. Because essentially, the drones flew west to east across the entire European part of the Rotten Federation, where air defense positions absolutely must exist by definition. The Orcs’ understand this perfectly well, which is why they’re commenting on this news with gloom and a healthy dose of fear. Here’s what the former defense minister of the enemy has to say:

Here is the English translation:

Until recently, the Urals were unreachable for air strikes from Ukrainian territory, but today they’re already in the zone of direct threat.

This is the industrial and defense potential of the region, which is one of our country’s industrial centers. Strategic defense industry enterprises are concentrated here, energy facilities, chemical industry, the largest oil and gas fields under development — everything that forms the foundation of the country’s economic security and defense capability.

The Urals also have extensive and saturated transport infrastructure, including major railway lines and hubs, federal highways.

Taking them offline could cause not only significant economic damage but destabilize the life of large agglomerations, disrupt supply chains, including those critically important for ensuring the special military operation.

The Paradigm Is Crumbling

The weight of war criminal Shoigu’s concerns is completely understandable, because today the contours of future strikes became crystal clear. The bulk of the enemy’s military enterprises sit precisely in that region, and if our defense forces start regularly hitting these locations, their military industry will simply collapse. They couldn’t even imagine anything remotely like this when they kicked off this war, but now it’s obvious to everyone that such a scenario is just a matter of time. After Ukraine’s defense forces delivered a masterclass beatdown to their export oil terminals, nobody doubts anymore that the military industry will get the same treatment. Most importantly, this is where the second paradigm of their war-fighting collapses, and they can’t hide it anymore.

Let’s just remind everyone that pootin planned to start and finish this war in three days, or maybe a few weeks tops. The Orcs enthusiastically backed him in this display of imperial greatness. But as we all know, the Russian blitzkrieg face-planted spectacularly. Then came the war of attrition, grinding down resources. But now the Orcs are feeling their resources melting away at such a clip that everything’s visibly circling the drain.

Ukrainian drones proved the industrial heartland fueling their war machine is now vulnerable, and therefore the question isn’t whether Ukrainian drones in the Urals will return — it’s when the next festival of heat and light kicks off.

¹Good Birds – slang for strike drones. Why “good”? Because they bring “warmth and light” to enemy military factories, ammunition depots, and oil refineries. Sarcastic? Of course. Effective? Even more so.

²Orcs – a common term for Russians who support or participate in the armed aggression against Ukraine. Dehumanizing? Yes. Accurate? Also yes.
